A few days ago, I remembered a thought that I have always known to be true (but temporarily forgot as I got older and occasionally ran the risk of taking things too seriously), and that is that forts, tipis and/or huts are always totally awesome (especially if you make them yourself).

My brother and neighborhood best friend and I used to make them all the time growing up. There's just something sort of special and magical about about a little secret place that you've worked so hard to make.
I am in full support of making grown-up forts indoors and outdoors.
Supplies (varies based on what you've got around and what kind of fortress you are looking to make): Sheets, blankets, comforters, scarves, pillows, a chair or two, something to hang or attach sheet-like items with (tacks or string can be helpful), yourself and/or a friend/love or a gaggle of creatures/people that you enjoy being in close quarters with (a pet, whatever). Books, computers (w/ some hulu or something), journals, flashlights, sketch materials, tunes, snacks...all good things to include too.

*I've found that creative/good fort makers make good friends, because you know that if you were ever in a pinch with them (like the apocalypse or something--you know), you could make a cool spot to hang out together (for the last few hours of life if indeed it was the apocalypse). Maybe we should all practice our skills, no?
